There are three basic rules of Texas holdem. The first rule pertains to the starting hand value. Two pocket cards or hole cards separates your hand from the other players’ hands, and so learning how to play these two cards is vital. It is important that you play the good starting hands and then fold the bad ones. The second rule pertains to the position of play. It is advantageous to be seated in a “late position†or one in which you are to act last. In this position, you will have the advantage of getting to see your opponents move before you act yourself. The third rule pertains to folding. Regardless of the betting round, if you have nothing and can’t draw to anything, then fold.
This game requires a lot of strategy and analysis in order for a player to win. Here are some of the things that you must keep in mind: Know your poker odds and trust your instincts. Your instincts are usually right. If you think that you’re beat, then you probably are. Also, think before you act. If you understand the math of the game, you win.
On the other hand, here are some of the things that you should not do: Play while you are upset, fatigued, or plain mad; try to bluff everyone on the first hand; and play every hand.
Texas Holdem is a measured game. It requires calculation and analysis. Learning it requires some bit of your time and a lot of practice.
