How to Play Pai Gow Poker

Many casinos are aware of the popularity of poker. Unfortunately, poker is a game played against other players and not the House, so the casinos have little involvement in regular poker, other than to charge a rake (a percentage of each pot) for the use of the dealer and the table. To combine the elements of poker with those of typical table games played against the house, casinos have invented a number of poker variations that are played like traditional table games, player vs. the casino.

One such variation is Pai Gow. In Pai Gow Poker, after each player puts up a wager of their choosing they are dealt seven cards. Your objective is to make your best five-card and two-card poker hand. As a rule, your five card hand must be stronger than your two card hand. If you are dealt A, A, 9, 8, 7, 3, 3, you could not split your hands into 9, 8, 7, 3, 3 and AA. You could split them into A, A, 9, 8, 7 and 3, 3, or A, A, 3, 3, 7 and 9, 8. As long as your five-card hand beats the two-card hand, you can arrange them however you like. If you are not sure the optimal way to set your hand, you can ask the dealer to help you. There is one joker in the deck, which can be used in your hand to complete a straight or a flush, or as an Ace. The joker is not wild, you cannot use it to pair any card in your hand other than the Ace.

Once you have set your hand, the dealer also sets his hand. If both of your hands beat both of the dealer hands, you win an amount equal to your initial bet. If both of the dealers’ hands beat both of yours, you lose your bet. If one hand wins and the other loses, it’s a tie and no one wins. The House gets its edge by charging a five percent commission on winning bets.

In Pai Gow you also have the option of being the “Banker”. If you choose to be the Banker, you put up a sum of money to cover (or “Bank”) all of the bets on the table (if the amount you put up is not enough, the House will pick up where you left off). If you are the Banker, you play against all Players. Your five percent commission is calculated after all wins and losses are tabulated. Being the Banker affords a very slight edge because if your hands “copy” (are exactly the same) a Player’s hand, you win.

Pai Gow is an interesting variation of poker and one you might consider if you like poker but are looking for a more traditional casino game than regular poker, or just one that provides an added dimension to the game. You can find Pai Gow at certain online casino sites and in any live casino.

Understanding Omaha Poker

Omaha poker is very much similar to another type of poker, the Texas Holdem. The player must also create a five-card poker hand both from the pocket cards and the community cards. A deck of 5-cards is used in this type of poker game.

About ten people can play the game.

Omaha poker, however, is different in the number of faced-down pocket cards that each player is given by the dealer. In Omaha, players are dealt with four cards as opposed to the two cards in Texas Holdem.

Still, players are given five community cards which they can use. This amounts to a total of nine cards that they can choose from when creating the best hand. However, players must use their two pocket cards and their three community cards in coming up with the best five-card hand. Because there are more cards to choose from, poker hands in Omaha Poker are stronger compared to other types of poker games.

Basically, Omaha poker can reach up to four rounds, provided that there are two players left to play and battle it out for the pot money. If everyone has folded, the game and the pot money of course goes to the last remaining player. During the first round of betting, the players are given four cards that are faced-down.

The dealer will then place three community cards at the center of the table, which the players can use for their hand. These cards are dealt with faced up. The next round, which is often called “Turn” in poker lingo, involves the dealer placing one community card faced -up on the table. The final round or the river also involves the dealing of another faced-up card on the table. For each round, players can bet, raise the stakes, or fold.

Because there are more cards involved and the possibility that a good card will be dealt with later in the game, players in Omaha poker often stay until the flop before folding.

Basic strategy

Omaha poker is undisputedly more complicated than Texas Holdem because of the fact that players will have to make guesses on four of the cards instead of only two in Texas Holdem. Another is the fact that with the players going to use two of the cards in the pocket cards and three in the community cards, the possibilities and the combinations of the hands are greater. It is much more difficult for a player to guess the outcome of the game in Omaha poker than in some poker game types.

One variation of the Omaha poker is the Omaha Hi/Lo, which is quite the rage in the United States. In fact, it is the Hi/Lo variation that are often seen in US casinos as opposed to the Hi variation, which quite prevalent in European casinos. The name Hi/Lo is actually a shortcut for Hi/Lo split, eight or better.

In Omaha Hi/Lo, it is not the one with high hand that is given the pot money. The player with the best hand will have to split the pot money with the player with the lowest hand, provided that his hand can meet some requirements. If there is no low hand that can meet the requirements, then the best player will get the full pot money.

Caribbean Stud Poker – Essential Rules in Playing the Game

The card table game called Caribbean stud poker is highly popular in both offline and online casinos. It is highly similar to the standard five-card poker. The only difference is that with the former, you’ll be playing against a dealer rather than on other players. Normally, you cannot initiate deception or bluff as you go along the game.

Basic Elements of Caribbean Stud Poker

A special table similar to that in blackjack games is used when playing the Caribbean stud poker. It can still deal 52 cards, though only 10 of them (5 for the player and another 5 for the dealer) are played in every game. There are also casinos that make use of a special equipment called the shuffling machine. It can deal 5 cards one at a time.

Rules of Caribbean Stud Poker

The objective of the game is very simple but can be tricky if you aren’t too familiar with it. You just need to beat the hand of the dealer.

The player should ante and will be subsequently given the 5 cards that he needs to play. There will also be 5 cards that will go to the dealer, after which one of them shall be left exposed to the player. The latter will then have a chance to fold his cards, raise his bet to double the amount of the ante, or completely lose the ante. When the player decides to raise the bet, the dealer will reveal the other folded cards.

There are two possible ways of how a player can win something from Caribbean stud poker. First, he needs to make sure that the dealer doesn’t end up having a qualifying hand. This means that he has an Ace-King or a much better one. If this happens, both the bet and the ante will automatically go directly to the house. Second, his cards should be a lot better than the dealer’s by hoping that the latter is not an Ace-King. He will earn the amount equal to his ante and a portion of the bet.

Common Grounds of Caribbean Stud Poker

This game may vary from one casino to the other because of the payouts and the table limits. Nevertheless, there are some general rules that should be remembered by the player:

1. The cards cannot be touched once they have been placed face down by the player. To establish the integrity of the game, the five cards that will be played by the player should be at complete view of both the other players and the dealer. Once they are in face-down positions, no one, not even the player, can touch them again.

2. The player can only play one hand at a time. The player doesn’t have the right to play multiple hands on Caribbean stud poker. The five cards should be played first and a win or a loss should be declared, before another set shall mark the start of another game.

3. There should be five cards played at all times. In situations where the dealer only provides 4 out of 5 cards to the player, the dealer is responsible to give an additional one to the former to complete his hand. However, if this cannot be provided, the game shall be considered void, and the deck of cards will be shuffled again.

4. No one can contest the decision of the house. The dealer will have the authority to have the final say on the game. If there are issues that need to be addressed, this may have to be brought to the casino supervisor or manager.

5. Players cannot communicate to anyone during the game. During the game, the player is completely prohibited from making any sign, uttering a word, or any form for communication to anyone-to the other players or to the dealer. This is a violation that may cause a dead hand, and the wagers shall be forfeited.
